REPORT: Supporting Gender-Diverse Youth in British Columbia

Understanding Current Protections, Emerging Challenges, and Practical Actions We Can Take

Over the past several years, policy changes affecting transgender and gender-diverse youth have been introduced in jurisdictions across Canada and the United States, prompting understandable concern from youth, parents, educators, healthcare providers, and community organizations here in British Columbia.

This report was developed to provide a brief overview of current legal and policy protections in British Columbia, summarize emerging trends elsewhere, and offer practical actions that individuals, families, professionals, and organizations can take to safeguard and promote the human rights of transgender and gender-diverse people. It is not intended to provide an exhaustive legal or policy analysis, but rather a snapshot of the current landscape and emerging concerns, with an emphasis on preparedness and practical action.
