Building Resilience, Dedication, Insight and Growth with Education and Empathy
You don't have to have all the answers.
Learning that your child is transgender, non-binary or gender-diverse can bring up many emotions. You may feel confusion, grief, fear, pride, love, hope, or all of these at once! You may be wondering how to support your child while also making sense of your own feelings.
BRIDGE is a four-session education and support program designed by and for parents and caregivers of transgender, non-binary, gender-diverse or gender-questioning children (of all ages). We offer a welcoming, non-judgmental space to learn, connect with other parents, and build skills and confidence in supporting your family.
Together we explore topics including: Understanding gender diversity, supporting your child while caring for yourself, responding to fear, uncertainty and misinformation, building resilience for your family, navigating schools, healthcare and community resources, and strengthening relationships through empathy and connection.
The program combines current research, practical tools, guided discussions, and opportunities to learn from other parents' experiences.
You are never expected to have all the right words or perfect answers. Curiosity, respect, and a willingness to learn are all that is required!
By the end of the program, participants leave with more knowledge, practical tools for your 'toolbox', stronger family connections, and increased confidence.
Program Details:
BRIDGE is delivered in four sessions in a small-group format, facilitated by Carrie Broughton, parent and Founder/Executive Director of TransParent Okanagan. The participant workbook, resources, and snacks are included. Because the sessions build on one another and relationships develop over the course of the program, participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions whenever possible.
Cost: Thanks to generous funders, there is no cost to attend!
